Tol-Timpinen

There's a tempest in yon horned moon,
And lightning in yon cloud,
And hard the music, mariners,
The wind is piping loud;
The wind is piping loud, my boys!
The lightning flashes free,
While the hollow oak our palace is,
Our heritage the sea.

Music of the Night (Outline)

    Prologue
  • Introduce Ayame, Shigure, Hatori.
  • "My name was Hatori." ("Was" important! Bring in later as Haa dropping name for some reason - fleeing outside world, losing self in depths of the opera house, etc.)
    Overture
  • Describe theatre. Make astonishingly similar in some respects to Hogwarts, with plenty of paper doors for Kyo to destroy ^_^ (Kyo & Co., Hogwarts crew, Naruto people, Team Rocket, random others are part of the cast / dancers / symphony / other miscellaneous employees, and make random appearances at inopportune times. Maybe even throw in Cap'n Sparrow?)
  • No major plot advancement here: Intro locations and characters, give some of the history of the theatre, develop Shigure and his older brother Akito (the former a poor writer with a good voice and an unquenchable thirst for feminine company, the latter much more dignified and well-endowed in the financial department).
    Think Of Me
  • Preparing for the first production of "The Queen and the Empress", a poorly-written piece starring La Carlotta (the theatre's resident Prima Donna). It's only decent feature is a single song "Think of Me".
  • Itachi anounces his imminent retirement and presents M Kakashi and M Iruka, the new owners of the Chimera's Opera House. They in turn announce that their new patron is Akito de Chagny. Akito comes in briefly, but his dark unsettling presence is not welcome for long, and he soon leaves. Naruto makes a comment about ramen noodles, and Ron freaks out about how Kakashi covers part of his face. "Maybe he's the Opera Ghost!"
  • Kakashi overhears this and asks Itachi for an explanation. For once Itachi does not seem willing to tell a story; they let the matter pass.
  • Ino gives a not-entirely-welcome "personal performance" to the two new co-owners, the sheer screechiness of which drives her cat Amadeus into a frenzy. The cat tears out of his holder's arms and races about the room, managing to knock over several large set pieces and culminating his rampage by landing a violent swipe across Ino's face. Shamed to come before an audience, Ino declares loudly and vehemently that she is leaving; Itachi throws his hands in the air and exits, leaving the unfortunate co-owners only two choices: Find a new singer for the part, or refund the entire theatre.
  • The co-owners, desperate, go down the entire line of chorus singers, but are disturbed to find that only two or three are good enough to sing the part at all and even those are weak. They are about to give in to despair when Ayame, the chief costume designer, wanders through singing softly. M Kakashi and M Iruka look at each other, at Aaya, at each other, at Aaya, and then grab his arms simultaneously. Aaya jumps.
    "Can you sing?" Kakashi asks.
"Of course I can sing," the designer replies, blinking. "Best in the choir at high school, if I do say so myself - but I'm not in the chorus, if that's what you're asking. I design all of the costumes except Carlotta's." His voice drops to a stage whisper. "I wouldn't touch those monstrosities she calls 'dresses' to save my life."
"But you can sing," Kakashi and Iruka repeat together, with enthusiasm. Kakashi is walking around Aaya now, eyeing his figure, suddenly realizing that not only can this man sing, he can also pass quite easily as a woman from a fairly short distance - certainly well enough for the stage. Thus Ayame is given Ino's part. He already knows the majority of the lyrics, having been on the stage quite frequently doing costume sketches; redesigns and recreates his costume overnight and bursts onto the stage the next evening in a blinding flash of glory.
  • Shigure, sitting with his brother Akito in the seat directly across from Box Five, recognizes his closest childhood friend and applauds loudly. This unrivaled enthusiasm catches the attention of the Phantom, who is standing silent in the darkest corner of his own box.

    ...now what? *sweatdrop*
